TV Guide Empty or Wrong? How to Fix IPTV EPG Problems

Hand holding a remote in front of a TV showing a completed setup checklist

The TV guide, or EPG (electronic program guide), is what makes IPTV feel like television: you see what is on now, what is next and what is worth staying up for. When it is empty or wrong, live TV turns into guesswork. The good news is that guide problems almost always come from a setting on the device or in the app, and most take a couple of minutes to fix.

How the guide reaches your screen

Your player app downloads guide data separately from the channels, then matches each listing to a channel using an ID. Three things have to be right: the app must know where to download the guide, the download must finish, and the clock on your device must be correct. Almost every problem below breaks one of those three.

Find your symptom

What you see Most likely cause Go to
Guide completely empty Guide not downloaded yet, or no guide link added Fixes 1 and 2
Programs shifted by an hour or more Time zone or time offset setting Fix 3
Guide stops a few days ago Automatic updates not running Fix 4
Listings on the wrong channel Old stored data or a wrong match Fixes 4 and 5
Some channels have a guide, others do not Channel not matched, or no guide data exists Fix 5

Fix 1: Give the first download time

On first login, channels often appear before the guide. A full guide can take a few minutes to download and process, especially on Fire TV Sticks and older TVs. Leave the app open on the guide screen for three to five minutes before changing anything. If the app shows a progress bar or an “updating EPG” message, let it finish.

Fix 2: Check where the guide comes from

  • Xtream login: the guide normally arrives with the login. If it is missing, open the app’s EPG or TV guide settings and make sure the provider’s guide is enabled.
  • M3U playlist: many apps need a separate guide link, sometimes called an EPG or XMLTV URL. If we sent one, paste it into the EPG field for that playlist. Without it, channels play but the guide stays blank.
  • MAC or portal: the guide comes through the portal. If it is empty, restart the box and check the time settings in Fix 3.

Fix 3: Correct the time zone and offset

A guide that is consistently one or two hours out is a clock problem, not a data problem.

  1. Open the device’s system settings and confirm the date, time and time zone. Turn on automatic network time if it is offered.
  2. In the player app, find the “EPG time shift” or “time offset” setting and set it to 0.
  3. If the guide is still off, adjust the offset one hour at a time until the current program matches what is on screen.

Two common traps: a guide that is exactly one hour wrong after the clocks change is usually a manual offset left over from earlier, so set it back to 0. And if you watch channels from another country, keep the device on your local time zone. The app converts listings to local time by itself, and adding an offset on top shifts them twice. Our English IPTV guide has more on watching across time zones.

Fix 4: Force a fresh update and clear old data

  1. Find “Update EPG”, “Refresh guide” or “Reload” in the app’s settings and run it.
  2. Check the automatic update interval. Once a day is enough for most households.
  3. If old or wrong listings remain, clear the app’s cache (Settings → Applications → your player → Clear cache on Android and Fire TV). Clear data only if you are ready to log in again.
  4. Free up storage. Guide files can be large, and a device with very little free space may fail to save them without showing an error.

Fix 5: Channels without guide data

Each listing is matched to a channel by an ID. When the IDs do not line up, that channel shows “No information” even though the rest of the guide works. Some apps let you link a guide manually: long-press the channel, choose the EPG or guide option and pick the matching listing.

Be aware that not every channel has guide data. Event channels that only carry occasional broadcasts, some smaller international channels and temporary channels often have no listings at all. That is a limit of the source data, not a fault on your device. If a channel you watch every day has no guide, send us its exact name and we will check whether listings exist for it.

Device-specific tips

  • Fire TV Stick: storage is tight, so clear the cache of apps you rarely use if the guide stops updating. Our Fire TV Stick guide has more on keeping the stick fast.
  • Samsung and LG TVs: some apps only refresh the guide when they start, so close the app fully rather than just switching inputs.
  • Set-top boxes: check the box’s own time zone setting, which is separate from the TV’s.
  • Several devices: each app keeps its own guide, so fixing one TV does not fix the others.

Still wrong?

Send us on WhatsApp the device, the app name, your time zone and a photo of the guide next to what is actually playing. With those four details we can usually point to the exact setting. Our customer support page has more step-by-step fixes for login, playback and guide problems.
